Job Description

Purpose of the job

Lead a team that is responsible for Technical Operations, R&D and Scientific Support to:

  • Produce cost effective, high quality, safe and effective In-Vitro Diagnostic Products.
  • Manage internal and external technical investigations of product/process performance.
  • Support and manage product transfer and launch teams to ensure that the manufacturing processes, procedures and equipment are successfully transferred to the receiving site, and the necessary product knowledge is acquired by the relevant technical support personnel at the receiving site.
  • Support the development projects to ensure a steady, timely flow of new products.

 

Major responsibilities

  • Carry out the responsibilities inherent in the position of a Front Line Manager in respect of Technical Operations & Product Support, including all aspects of safety, training and people development.
  • To implement manufacturing strategies and manage technical aspects of product and process performance.
  • To ensure Operations are provided with the necessary troubleshooting and backup.
  • To identify, document, investigate and remedy the cause of product or process nonconformance.
  • To ensure that all customer requirements are met while maintaining product availability of diagnostic reagents.
  • Ensure department operates within agreed budgets.
  • Keep abreast of developments in technical and manufacturing areas to ensure the plant continues to produce quality products under regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure that the department meets the quality requirements of its customers, internal & external Auditors and other external agencies.
  • To ensure the successful transfer and start-up of new products. To co-ordinate technical issues with relevant personnel in other sites.
  • Manage areas of responsibility to ensure employees are adequately trained to perform their role safely.
  • Optimise the use of human resources by encouraging an atmosphere of involvement, open communication and effective teamwork
  • On an annual basis, establish the functional goals for area of responsibility with Manager. Update and review progress against goals on a quarterly basis and conduct annual performance reviews/appraisals and development plans for direct reports.

Education & competencies

  • 8 + years in a similar position with a degree or equivalent in a relevant Chemistry or Life Science discipline
